Muna Sobhi Omari
A Syrian born artist who was born in Damascus,
the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world, bedrock of civilization and
a fountain of various cultures. MWIA mission was initiated as a volunteer
support group for the Muslim women of talent in any form of artistic creation.
MWIA is based upon the premise that the work created by the artists is a display
of the freedom of creativity bestowed on all women who seek to present their
cultural heritage in the manifestation of a higher self.
Grew up in a large family and inherited from her
father his love for people, knowledge and the search for the truth and beauty in
everything.
Married at a young age and brought up three children,
a girl and two sons.
Traveled with her husband, who worked in the Foreign
Service, and lived in Italy, Greece and Brazil. After returning to Damascus, she
continued her education and received a bachelor degree in philosophy and a
master in education and psychology from the University of Damascus.
Her Art of writing on glass and other mediums is
inspired by long and rich history of the Islamic ornament and calligraphy.
She participated in many solo and
group exhibitions in Washington, D.C. and Damascus, Syria.
